C-Type Stockyard Dry Fog Dust Suppression System

A targeted dry fog dust suppression system was implemented for a high-elevation C-type stockyard in a steel plant, effectively controlling dust emissions at conveyor transfer points and shuttle discharge areas without increasing material moisture.

Dry fog dust suppression system in steel plant stockyard

Site Conditions and Dust Challenges

The C-type stockyard is positioned on an elevated platform at approximately 32 meters, where bulk materials are conveyed through belt systems and distributed via shuttle carts. Due to the significant drop height and open structural layout, dust generation during material transfer was particularly severe.

Dust emissions were most concentrated at the shuttle discharge points and belt conveyor transfer locations, where material impact and airflow disturbance caused continuous dust escape into the surrounding environment.

These conditions not only affected the plant environment and operator visibility, but also led to material loss and increased maintenance requirements.

Engineering Solution

Based on on-site investigation, a localized dry fog dust suppression system was designed with a focus on controlling dust at the source.

Directional dry fog nozzles were installed at key discharge points of the shuttle cart, ensuring that dust is captured immediately as material falls. Additional fogging units were arranged along the belt conveyor transfer zones to address secondary dust generation.

Each stockyard area was equipped with remote-controlled spray units, allowing flexible operation based on working conditions. A dual-pipeline system was adopted to ensure stable and continuous supply of atomized fog across all spray points.

Working Principle

The system generates micron-level dry fog particles that are similar in size to dust particles. These fine droplets collide and combine with airborne dust, increasing their weight and causing them to settle quickly.

Unlike traditional spraying methods, the dry fog system minimizes water consumption and avoids excessive moisture addition, ensuring that material properties and downstream processes are not affected.

By controlling dust directly at emission points, the system prevents further dispersion and significantly reduces overall dust concentration in the working area.

Application Scope

This solution is widely applicable to steel plant stockyards, bulk material storage areas, conveyor transfer points, and shuttle discharge systems.

It is particularly suitable for working conditions with large drop heights, open spaces, and continuous material flow where dust control is difficult using conventional methods.

Project Results

After installation, dust emissions in the C-type stockyard were significantly reduced, improving on-site visibility and overall working conditions.

The system effectively minimized material loss and helped reduce equipment wear caused by dust accumulation.

The project supports the plant's environmental compliance goals and contributes to achieving ultra-low emission standards.
